OLIVE Application Used in Transport Incident Management and Mitigation

On Monday, 22 June 2009, a Washington, D.C. Metro transit train crashed into the rear of another during the city's Monday evening rush hour, killing at least nine and injuring many others. Cars of both trains were ripped open and heavily damaged in the worst accident in the Metrorail system's 33-year history.

An OLIVE customer and developer, Center for Advanced Transportation Technology Laboratory (CATT Lab) located at the University of Maryland, in the A. James Clark School of Engineering, has been a valuable resource to transportation officials--especially after the tragic Metro accident. The CATT Lab's real-time and historical incident visualization and training capabilities, including 3D, real-time traffic monitoring, or "virtual helicopter", are particularly helpful with review and analysis towards preventing similar incidents in the future.

Various media coverage of the CATT Lab's role can be seen at:

See OLIVE on NCIS

A previous episode of CBS's popular NCIS television series featured a commercial application based in Forterra's OLIVE! As part of a two-part, two-hour episode titled 'Legend', new characters were introduced for a new spin-off NCIS series set to debut next season.

Lockheed Martin Information Systems & Global Services (IS&GS) is a key customer and developer of OLIVE. Lockheed Martin IS&GS-Intelligence's Mirror Worlds system uses Forterra's OLIVE virtual world platform to host Pictometry geospatial data. This results in re-creation of "the real world" in the OLIVE virtual environment. Lockheed Martin IS&GS engineers traveled to Los Angeles to integrate Mirror Worlds technology into the show’s new command center set.

The episode can be viewed online on the CBS website here.
